CANCELLED – Book Speed Dating

Updated February 13, 2019

February 14, 2019 @ 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM

Do you know a book who’s pretty special?

Are you looking to meet other books? Maybe win some chocolate?

Perhaps even take a book home with you?

Sign up for Book Speed Dating!

This is not a human-dating event, but a book-dating one! That said, you will be talking to humans about their favourite books, answering silly questions and voting for the book you’d like to see again…

To participate, all you need is the title and author of a book you want to talk about–but keep it a secret until the end!

Maximum 20 participants. Pre-registration required! Call the library to sign up at 604.886.2130.

Here’s how it works:

Participants must sign up in advance for Book Speed Dating.

1) Call the library to sign up and be sure to tell them the author and title of the book you will be representing. Remember to keep it a secret! Don’t tell your friends the name of the book you plan to talk about. (Please note: You do not need to bring a hard copy of the book. Simply tell the library the author and title, and that’s it!)

2) Participants will each be given a card. On the front of the card is your number. The inside of the card is a picture of your book’s cover. On the back of the card is a list of numbers of each book you will “meet.”

3) Participants will be seated during book speed-dating, changing pairs at each bell until all the pairs have met or about 45 minutes or so has passed, whichever comes first.

3) For each round, a question will be suggested by the facilitator. “Couples” will have 1-3 minutes each to answer the question about their book. If they share other information about the book or if the conversation diverges, that is fine too–there is no penalty for getting distracted or having too much fun.

4) After each round, you will rate the book you just met on a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being “Not my type,” and 5 being “Will you marry me??”

5) Once every “couple” has had a turn to “meet,” we will find out the true identities of the books! Who guessed it? Who did you choose to read?

And finally–prizes! Of course.
