Coding Drop-In Clinic

Updated June 20, 2017

July 10, 2017 @ 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM

6 Mondays, from July 10 to August 21, from 10:30 – 12:00

(no class on BC Day, August 7)

This is a weekly drop-in clinic for kids who like to code, or want to learn how.  All levels of experience are welcome.  Each session will be facilitated by an adult professional who will be on hand to answer questions and offer creative challenges.  Participants can attend as many (or as few) sessions as they would like, but should bring an active email address and password with them.

These sessions will focus largely on block coding using Scratch which will cover the fundamental practices of coding including: events, loops, conditions, operators, sensing, and functions used in simple computer games, stories, data, motion, and graphics. A few later clinics will introduce the transition from block-based coding to text-based coding using JavaScript for standalone applications. For all sessions, participants will work in pairs using Chromebooks provided by the library.

This program is intended for participants who have just finished grades 4, 5, 6 or 7.

Space will be limited to 16 people at a time and registration opens on June 13.

Registration forms are available here or in person at the library.
