Freedom to Read Open Mic

Wednesday February 21 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Canada’s Freedom To Read Week, you’re invited to come read aloud (for up to 5 minutes) from your favourite book, for adults, teens, or children, that has been banned or challenged in libraries or schools. Or just come enjoy the freedom to listen. Freedom to Read resources include fascinating lists of publications that have been banned or challenged in Canada, at the border, or in history (including Harry Potter, The Handmaid’s Tale, Shakespeare, and the Bible!).

Looking for a banned book to read?  We have many in the library! Find books for both adults and kids on our Challenged Books list.

Teens and adults, and readers at all levels of English, are all welcome. In-person space is limited: registration is recommended if you wish to read. Contact the Library or register below

Also accessible live on Zoom.
