Intergenerational Book Club to celebrate Freedom to Read Week and Black History Month
Updated February 1, 2018
Adults and youth (12 yrs. +) are invited to read and discuss together Mildred D. Taylor’s book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry (published in 1976).
The book has been banned, and also won the Newbery Medal. It is a celebration of an African-American family’s pride, love, and resilience in the face of poverty, hardships, and the racial violence that was prevalent in Mississippi in the 1930’s. The content is at times difficult though the historical context is accurate. The book is meant to be shared by both a mature young reader (12 yrs. +) and an adult that they know.
Copies will be available to borrow from the library mid-February (one copy per household please).
Know the past, shape the future.
