Summer Reading Club

Updated June 15, 2017

July 5, 2017 @ 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM

For kids who have completed Kindergarten, grades 1, 2, or 3 (though the reading logs are for kids of all ages).

Every Wednesday in July as well as the first two Wednesdays in August, from 10:30 – 12:30

The Summer Reading Club is a free, drop-in program that aims to inspire children to keep reading throughout the summer with games, reading logs, stories, contests, art-making and more.  The theme this year is “Walk on the Wild Side!”

Please pre-register by completing and submitting your registration forms BEFORE your child attends the program. Registration opens June 13th, and forms can be printed off here or picked up in the library.

When you drop off your child’s registration form, be sure to also pick up a Reading Log for your child, so they can track how much they read during July and August.   Their challenge is to read every day – just a page or short book for beginner readers, or a chapter for more advanced readers – the amount is less important than the consistency.  Even the books you read to your child count, we just want them to keep enjoying books in one form or another, all summer long.

Please note however, that no matter how much your child reads (or you read to your child), you should only fill out ONE line in the Reading Log, per day.

All participants are invited to bring their Reading Logs to the Wrap Up Celebration on August 26, from 2:00-4:00 pm.  There will be live music and some cake for everyone, as well as the chance to win prizes and receive reading medals for the most dedicated readers.  The more often your child reads, the more chances they will have to win.

Readers who are older than gr. 1, 2, 3 and 4, are also encouraged to complete a Reading Log and qualify for prizes and medals at the Wrap Up Celebration, even though they won’t participate in the on-site programs on Wednesdays.

So have fun making a habit of reading together this summer.
