Wellness Wednesday on July 4 – KARATE
The library invites young people ages 12-22 to explore karate. Karate originated on the island of Okinawa as an art of unarmed combat, but has since evolved into karate-do, a “way” or method of self-development. For many practitioners the dojo (school) becomes a refuge from the stress of everyday life, a place where they can face themselves in an introspective process of personal growth. Ultimately, freedom from our self-imposed limitations is the reward of serious karate training. With sensei Dallas Grieve, kaigan-karate.ca
Wellness Wednesday on July 18 – YOGA
The library invites young people ages 12-22 to explore yoga as a wellness practice. Yoga refers to a group of physical, mental and spiritual practices that originated in ancient India. With instructor Siobhan Smith.
Wellness Wednesday Aug. 1st – ENERGY MEDICINE
Utilizing techniques from yoga, kinesiology and more, learn to restore energy wellness through tapping, massaging, pinching, or connecting specific energy points (acupoints) on the skin and other techniques. With Tammie York.
Wellness Wednesday Aug. 15 – MEDITATION (YOGA NIDRA)
Yoga Nidra supports the decrease of activation in the sympathetic nervous system through a series of body, breath, and awareness techniques, which lead to a peaceful state free of tension. With Roxanne Sammartino.
