Sign Up for a Library Card

New! Sign up for a library card online!

Gibsons and district residents can now request a free, temporary (3 month) library membership online. After we receive and approve your form, you will have full access to all our online resourcesThis temporary membership can be made permanent once we are able verify proof of residency upon your first visit.  The Library Card Application Form can be found here.

If you already have an account and have any questions about accessing any of our online resources, please email us at gdplinfo@gibsons.bclibrary.ca.

Permanent residents may join the library free of charge with proof of residency.

Members of other BC libraries may be eligible for a BC OneCard, which would give them borrowing privileges at Gibsons & District Public Library.

Non-residents who aren’t eligible for a BC OneCard can purchase a temporary library card for $50.00 ($45.00 for students), which is valid for 6 months (and includes a $30.00 refundable deposit).

Library card holders’ rights and responsibilities

You are responsible for all the materials borrowed on your card and for any charges on items that are overdue, lost or damaged. (See Loan Periods and Fines for details). Your library card provides access to licensed databases from outside the library. You may also look at our catalogue from home over the Internet, and access your account to place holds, keep lists and renew items.

Lost or stolen cards

If you lose your library card, you are responsible for any items checked out on your card. You must report it as lost immediately and we will block the card so that no one can use it.

Change of address or password

It is important for us to have your current information. If you change your address or other personal information, contact the library and we’ll update your record.

To change your PIN number, log in to your account, click on the "Account Preferences" tab, and change your password. We do not recommend that patrons use a 4 digit number as their password.  4 digit numbers should only be used for temporary passwords and should be changed to something more secure after the account is created.
