Gibsons & District Public Library Restart Plan: How our library services will change through the BC Start up plan steps

Step 1: Starting May 25

The criteria for Step 1 is at least 60% of the 18+ population vaccinated with dose 1, along with stable case counts and COVID-19 hospitalizations.

PHO guidance:

Physical distancing and masks continue to be required in public indoor settings If you or anyone in your family feels sick stay home and get tested immediately

How the library will change

*Some public seating and table space will be restored

*Patrons will no longer be encouraged to keep their visits brief

*Some one on one programs will be offered outside or in the foyer

Step 2: Earliest start date June 15

The criteria for moving to Step 2 is at least 65% of the 18+ population vaccinated with dose 1, along with declining case counts and COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The earliest date we move to Step 2 is June 15.

How the library will change

*Patrons will be able to return items inside the library to the circulation desk

*Additional seating will be restored

*Meetings of up to 10 people can take place in Mainil Room

*Stairwell to Parkade will re-open

Step 3: Earliest start date July 1

The criteria for moving to Step 3 is at least 70% of the 18+ population vaccinated with dose 1, along with low case counts and declining COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The earliest date we move to Step 3 is July 1.

How the library will change

*Full Seating will be restored to Library

* Mainil Room bookings will resume

*All public computers will be opened

Change in Mask Policy

At step 3, masks will no longer be mandatory in indoor spaces, though wearing them is recommended. As such, at GDPL:

*mask wearing will no longer be enforced

*masks will no longer be offered/ provided unless a patron requests one

*staff will continue to wear masks at all times when in the public areas of the library with the exception of when they are working behind plexiglass with physical distancing in place with co-workers

Step 3: As of August, 25, 2021

How the library will change

*Masks are mandatory for all library staff and patrons

*Library programs will resume with a maximum capacity of 20 people in the Manil Room.
All attendees will need to wear masks. No food allowed beverages are permitted and
masks can be removed briefly to sip.

*Library hours will change from 10:00 to 5:00 to 10:00 to 5:30

Step 4: Earliest start date September 7

 The criteria for moving to Step 4 is more than 70% of the 18+ population vaccinated with dose 1, along with low case counts and low COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The earliest date we move to Step 4 is September 7.
